Privacy Policy

The short version

Your memories are yours. We use your data only to provide and improve The Audacity for you. We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use your stories to train AI models. Period.

What we collect

When you use The Audacity, we collect:

  • Account information — your email address, display name, and password (hashed, never stored in plain text).
  • Your content — vault entries, chapters, entities, connections, and conversations you create. This is the core of your book and is stored securely in our database.
  • Usage data — basic analytics like message counts and session activity to help us improve the service. We do not track you across other websites.
  • Payment information — processed securely by Stripe. We never see or store your full credit card number.

How we use your data

We use your data exclusively to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve The Audacity service for you.
  • Process your conversations with our AI to create and organize your book content.
  • Send you daily writing prompts (only if you opt in).
  • Process payments and manage your subscription.
  • Send transactional emails (password resets, account confirmations).
  • Provide any other features, services, or functionality we may offer to you as part of the Service.

We do not use your personal stories, memories, or book content to train AI models, build marketing profiles, or for any purpose other than providing your service.

What we never do

  • Sell your data to anyone, for any reason.
  • Share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • Use your stories or memories to train AI models.
  • Read your content unless you explicitly ask us for support.
  • Track you across other websites or apps.

Third-party services

We use a small number of trusted services to operate The Audacity. These services only receive the minimum data necessary to function:

  • AI processing — your conversations are sent to our AI provider to generate book content. Our provider does not use your inputs to train their models.
  • Payment processing — handled by a third-party payment processor. They handle your payment info directly; we never see your card details.
  • Infrastructure — we use third-party services for database hosting, application hosting, and email delivery. These providers only receive the minimum data necessary to operate.

We do not use any advertising networks, analytics trackers, or social media pixels.

Data security

We take the security of your data seriously:

  • All data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS encryption).
  • Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.
  • Database access is protected by row-level security — you can only see your own data.
  • Daily database backups are maintained automatically.
  • Rate limiting protects against abuse.

Your rights and control

You are always in control of your data:

  • Export — download your complete book at any time from Settings.
  • Delete — permanently delete your account and all data from Settings. This is immediate and irreversible.
  • Opt out — disable daily prompts anytime from Settings.
  • Cancel — cancel your subscription at any time. Your data remains accessible and exportable.

Data retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all your data (profile, vault entries, chapters, entities, conversations) is permanently removed from our database. Backup copies are purged within 30 days.

Children

The Audacity is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email. The “last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised.
